Annual General Meeting – 2nd March 2019 – Report by Loraine Sherlock

It was great to see the hall at Harnham packed with members attending our Annual General Meeting.  Committee member Terry Kemp, who for family reasons was unable to attend, had produced an illustrated slide show that enabled the usual more mundane business matters to be more interesting and entertaining.  Andy Barker ably took charge of proceedings and he gave a brief overview of last year’s events and a look at the year ahead.  Three members of the committee were standing down, Margaret Gill, Pamela Gregory and Jane Taylor, and presentations were made to them in gratitude for the sterling work they had done on our behalf – Margaret who has arranged winter exhibitions in the hospital, Pam for producing the events programme and Jane for setting up and running Friday Art.  A presentation was also made to Sandra Hammer in recognition and thanks for her unceasing Chairmanship work in reviving SGA and securing its future as a leading art group.  Members of the committee were voted in including our new secretary, John Bulford.  Fred Westmoreland was nominated and elected as our new Chairman, as was Martin Webster who has taken the newly created position of Deputy Chairman.   We are pleased to welcome them into their roles.  A break was taken with a chance to chat over a cup of tea and cake with other members before a look at the up and coming events for the year ahead, the Friday Art programme and future exhibitions.  Finally, Derek Flint, our Treasurer produced a brief Financial Report that showed the group’s finances were in a healthy position
