Annual Summer Exhibition Saturday 4th August – Thursday 30th August 2018
Our annual exhibition is currently in Gallery 4 at Salisbury Library, SP1 1BL, from 4th – 30th August 2018. Opening times: library hours. Free admission. The gallery is situated on the first floor; there is a lift available.
The range of works on display will provide affordable, original and exceptional artwork by local artists proving that despite recent negative press Salisbury remains a vibrant and active City in which to create. This year the works have been selected from a variety of entries by an external judge, Siriol Sherlock, who awarded the Edwin Young Prize to Jane Walker for her entry ‘Night Street’ (illustrated).
A very successful ‘Meet the Artists’ event at the Library was held from 12.00 midday until 3.00 pm on Saturday 4th August when artists mingled with guests and the awards for Highly Commended, Commended and the Edwin Young Prize were presented. It was also an opportunity to thank our Chairman, Sandra Hammer, for all the hard work and enthusiasm she has put into promoting the Salisbury Group of Artists over the past few years.
During the exhibition both adults and children will be encouraged to sculpt small clay ‘selfies’ that will be displayed in the gallery to form an art installation entitled ‘Salisbury Faces in a Crowd’. There will be an opportunity to create these at every Tuesday and Saturday throughout the period of the exhibition. These events will take place on the steps of the Library where Terry Kemp, the artist behind the project, will be encouraging everybody to participate. The challenge will then be to spot your face amongst the crowd in the Gallery 4 installation!
Stop Press: The results of the public vote for favourite pictures at the Summer Exhibition are:
1st Prize “Night Street” by Jane Walker
2nd Prize: “Cold Wind” by Paul Ryder
3rd Prize: “The Red Pencil” by Allan Samuels
